All About Second Grade

HOMEWORK:

The homework for second grade will be spending approximately 15-20 minutes listening to your child read daily. A book will be sent home along with a slip to be signed that you did listen to your child read. Also, we will have weekly spelling test consisting of 10 words and 3 challenge words. The list will be sent home on Monday to study.

COMMUNICATION:

I encourage you to contact me about any questions or concerns you may have at any time during the school year. Likewise, I will contact you with any questions or concerns I may have at any time during the school year. I will post regularly on my classroom website. You can find me on the school’s website Silverlakeschools.org. Please provide feedback for any additional items you would like to see posted. I welcome phone calls, texts, emails, or just stop by my classroom. I won’t have opportunities to frequently check emails during the school day, so if you have an issue that affects your child that day, please call the office.

SNACKS/DRINKS:

Your child is welcome to bring a snack to school as long as it is on the school approved snack list. (animal crackers, pretzels, graham crackers, fruits, veggies) Your child is also welcome to bring a bottle of water to leave on their desk if they choose. Per school policy: Parents are not allowed to bring in snacks during the school day, students must remember to bring snacks to school that day.

BEHAVIOR:

My system is a clip up/clip down chart. There are 3 color levels. All students begin their day on green. They can clip down to yellow or red. Students will clip down for being rude, interrupting, ect… If a student is asked to clip down they will have the opportunity to correct their behavior and clip back up.  Students will have the opportunity to correct their behavior and clip back up for things like being helpful, showing effort, being kind, on task behaviors. At the end of the school day, students can earn punches on their reward card if they are on green. When they get 20 punches they will earn a reward. If a student ends the day on red, I will be making a phone call home. Students can also earn tickets for returning their folder with their previous work removed and completing homework assignments. Students will sign their ticket and place it in a container. On Fridays I will draw a ticket and a prize will be awarded. The more tickets earned the better the chances of winning!!!
